25-Jun-2008: Mark finishes 17th in the UMP Summernationals event held at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, MO.  Earlier in the evening, Mark scored a victory in his heat race earning a 3rd place starting spot.  Fellow Quincy Raceways driver Denny Woodworth finished 8th in the feature after earning his 17th place starting spot through the Consilation race after drawing a tough heat assignment.

22-Jun-2008: Mark finishes 13th in the IMCA Pepsi Mid-Season Points Championship Feature at Quincy Raceways. Next race: Wednesday (June 25) at Lake Ozark Speedway - UMP Summernationals.

13/14-Jun-2008: Mark and the NMI Racing Team traveled 8 hours north to Cedar Lake Speedway to participate in the two day WDRL sanctioned "Masters" event (double features).  Friday night saw Mark finish third in his heat (started fifth) earning enough passing points to lock in a spot for the 24-car feature (43 cars present).  However, on lap nine of the feature, Mark pulled off the track after experiencing a bad vibration.  Further investigation revealed a bent drive shaft and a bent left rear heims joint, both likely the result of Tuesday's night rough race track at Quincy Raceways.   Saturday night did not treat Mark as well as he was regulated to a 6th place finish in his heat and a last place finish in B-main after slowing on the last lap with damage to the right front.  Further investigation revealed a broken strut that resulted in breaking the shock and bending the ball joint and other components.

10-Jun-2008: Mark wins Ken Schrader UMP Late Model Special at Quincy Raceways passing Ed Dixon in turn four of the final lap as Dixon faltered amid motor trouble after leading the event from the drop of the green flag.  Mark also picked up a victory in his heat race and in the trophy dash.  Rough race track yet again!

7-Jun-2008: Mark finishes 16th in UMP Weekly feature at Lincoln Speedway after being involved in a wreck while running 6th (incident caused minor damage to right front after contacting the wall - unable to finish the race).

6-Jun-2008: Granite City canceled due to rain.  Upcoming races: Saturday night at Lincoln, IL (UMP weekly), Sunday night at Quincy (IMCA) and Tuesday night at Quincy (UMP Ken Schrader special).

1-Jun-2008: The streak continues ... following Friday night's victory at Granite City, Mark capped off a "perfect weekend" winning his heat race, the trophy dash and the IMCA weekly feature at Quincy Raceways Sunday night (from a 12th place starting spot).  The only set back all weekend was Mother Nature winning out Saturday night at Pevely, MO.  Let's hope the weather cooperates from here on out so Mark and the NMI team can continue to ready themselves for the UMP Summernationals stretch the first week in July.  Next race: Friday night at Granite City (tentative).

30-May-2008: Mark wins weekly UMP late model feature at Granite City, IL after only his second trip to the track this year.  Mark, who started third in the feature event, slipped back to fourth in the opening laps before finding a groove he liked near the top of the track and taking the lead spot away a few laps later.  Mark maintained the first place position throughout the remainder of the 25 lap caution free event expanding his margin of victory to a full straightaway later in the race (, STLracing.com photos).  This victory marks the first win for the new F1 Engineered Chassis designed and built by Sammy Speaks of Precision Suspension and Robby Bilbrey of RPI Suspension powered by a Ford Kuntz & Company engine.  Special thanks to our sponsors for the 2008 season for making this first memorable "open car" victory possible: Rick's Transit Repair / Summy Tire / J&J Steel / Gem City Ford / Quincy Holdiay Inn / Viele Plumbing / Turner Bros Garage / Outdoor Power / Rinella Company / Pepsi of Quincy / Nelson Motorsports and the Houge family. Next race: Sunday night at Quincy, IL (IMCA Weekly).  April/May Racing Recap: 13 events (6 IMCA / 7 Open) : 3 wins, 7 Top 5's, 10 Top 10's, 2 DNS and  12 rain-outs!

25-May-2008: Will it ever stop raining?  Sunday night's $10,000 to win UMP Fedex 50 special at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL was rained out along with Quincy Raceways weekly action (back-up plan).

23/24-May-2008: Mark and the NMI racing team traveled south to Granite City, IL and Pevely, MO to take part in weekly UMP racing action on Friday and Saturday night. Friday night, Mark finished a respectable 3rd place in the feature at Granite City following a 2nd place finish in his heat race.  Saturday night Mark did not fare as well, finishing 11th in the feature event at a very fast I-55 Speedway in Pevely, MO after a 4th place finish in his heat.  Both races marked a first time appearance at each track for the 2008 season - a common occurence with all the rain we have experienced (of the 11 races Mark has competed in this year, only 4 have been a repeat appearance at a track already visited in 2008 - all 4 repeat appearances have come at Quincy; exlcudes the Diamond Nationals at Wheatland where Mark only made a qualifying run).

18-May-2008: Mark finishes 6th in IMCA weekly feature  at Quincy, IL after staring 14th in the feature.  Congratulations to Jason Frankel, Sunday's feature winner, as he completed a clean sweep in IMCA weekly action winning Friday night at Lee County Speedway in Donnelson, IA and Saturday at 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA.

17-May-2008: Lucas Oil Late Model Series at LaSalle Speedway: Mark finished 7th in his heat after starting 6th.  Ran well in the B-Main finishing 6th; did not earn a starting spot in the feature.  39 late models in attendance.  Power steering woes seem to be corrected - in search for more forward bite off the corners.  Next race: Quincy Raceways on 18-May-2008 in lieu of WoO show at Lincoln Speedway.

10-May-2008: Rain cancels Saturday's Lucas Oil Diamond Nationals in Wheatland, MO.  Event rescheduled for Sunday evening.  Due to prior committments on Sunday and for fear of tearing up the car on a rough race track the following day, Mark and the NMI team returned to Quincy on Saturday night with the hope of racing at Quincy Raceways on Sunday night...only to have Mother Nature show her head again forcing yet another rain out.  Next race: LaSalle Speedway (Lucas Oil Dirt Series) on Saturday and Lincoln Speedway on Sunday (WoO Late Model Series). (Diamond Nationals coverage - Shannon Babb leads all 100 laps).

9-May-2008: Mark qualifies 28th out of 80 late models in attendance at the Lucas Oil Dimond Nationals presented by SuperClean in Wheatland, MO.  Unfortnately, six other drivers in his qualifying group logged a faster lap relegating Mark to a 7th place starting spot in Saturday night's heat.  Mark's heat will feature Shannon Babb and Jimmy Owens on the front row in addition to Brian Birkhofer, last year's winner, starting 9th.  Fellow Quincy Raceways drivers Denny Woodworth and Ricky Frankel will start 5th and 8th in their respective heats.  Saturday night's racing action includes the complete late model card (heats, B-mains and A feature) and a modified feature based on Friday night's heats. (video).

4-May-2008: In the lone race of the weekend, Mark finishes third in the IMCA weekly feature at Quincy Raceways after a twelfth place start in the feature.  Next race: Diamond Nationals at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO on Friday and Saturday May 9 & 10; Quincy Raceways on Sunday May 11 for Gem City Ford night (bearing in mind Sunday is the rain date for the Diamond Nationals).

30-Apr-2008: Mark finishes third in the Deery Brothers Summer Series event at Quincy Raceways after a first place finish in his heat.  Mark relinquished the runner-up position to Tom Darbyshire in the closing laps of the race while trying to pass Denny Woodworth (eventual winner) for the win on the dry slick track.  Next race: Quincy Raceways Sunday evening (Note: MLRA race at Adrain, MO orginally scheduled for May 3 has been rescheduled to May 17 - unclear at this time if Mark will attend due to a conflicting Lucas Oil Dirt Series event at LaSalle Speedway).

29-Apr-2008: Mark finishes third in the Deery Brothers Summer Series event at 34 Raceway after a second place finish in his heat.  Next race: Quincy Raceways Deery Brothers Summer Series event tomorrow night.

26-Apr-2008: Mark and the NMI Racing Team did not race at Quincy Sunday night due to a scheduling conflict (Cale's traveling baseball team advanced to the final game of their baseball tournament in Burlington, IA on Sunday evening).  Look for Mark in action in two midweek Deery Brothers Summer Series events this week - 34 Raceway on Tuesday night and Quincy Raceway on Wednesday evening.

20-Apr-2008: Mark wins Quincy IMCA Late Model feature.

19-Apr-2008: Mark and the Nelson Motorsports Racing Team traveled to Lincoln (IL) Speedway on Saturday night to race inUMP weekly action in preparation for this summer's WoO event.  Mark placed a respectable 5th place in his heat and 7th in the feature amid rough track conditions following this week's rain.  This was first Mark's first visit to the 1/4 mile clay oval.

19-Apr-2008: Inclement weather cancels MARS events on Friday at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City) and Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway.  Look for Mark and the NMI team at Quincy Raceways on Sunday

12-Apr-2008: Due to the inclement weather in the area, the Deery Bros. events at 34 Raceway and Quincy Raceway have been postpomed and rescheduled for Tuesday April 29th and Wednesday April 30th

6-Apr-2008: Mark wins Quincy IMCA Late Model feature.

5-Apr-2008: Mark wins his heat race earning a 5th place starting spot in the MLRA feature ultimately finishing 7th amid a power steering pump failure. Forty-eight late models were in attendance for the $2,000 to win event. (photos)

19-Jan-2008: Mark Burgtorf honored at the Quincy Raceways 2007 Season Banquet as the Late Model Track Champion.  Announces he will not be running Quincy full-time in 2008 as he campaigns an open late model in events throughout Missouri, Illinois and Iowa in the MLRA, MARS, UMP Summernationals and Lucas Oil  Late Model Series.  To hear an interview with Mark from this evening's event, please click here.  Special thanks to Dave Jones and Dan Workman of the Pepsi Inside Track radio show for sharing this interview with us.  You can follow their show at www.myspace.com/krnqpit.
